Western University Steam Tunnel
This multi-year project, which began in 2023, is now entering its third year of construction. The project is being completed in phases with the assistance of London-based installation contractors. Every effort has been made to minimize any disruptions to students studying on campus. Phase 1 involved the installation of 64 meters of 1.5m x 0.9m steam tunnel with removable concrete lids. Phase 2 is currently in progress and, once finished, will extend the tunnel by an additional 130 meters, including the addition of a new hub to direct steam in four directions. To date, Coldstream Concrete Ltd. has produced 79 tunnel segments and 68 lids.
