Project scope
In the fall of 2015 Coldstream Concrete supplied a project to Gibbons Contracting Ltd in the City of Welland, Ontario. It consisted of a double run – open bottom box culvert with a span of 7.316m and a rise of 1.524m. The 9.0m wide road joined two subdivisions together in an area with extreme high water tables and poor soils. This all precast job consisted of 24 precast footing units, 24 precast open bottom box units and 8 different sized wing wall units. The total precast installation time in late fall was 3 days.
Bridge 417 – Thompson Line
Central Elgin County
On October 15, 2015 Coldstream Concrete supplied an open bottom precast culvert that had a 11.5m span and 3.5m rise to the County of Central Elgin. Relatively dry conditions were very helpful during the installation due to the size of the watercourse and excavation. The culvert consisted of 15 units to create a 16m wide roadway. This single structure replaced a design for a dual box culvert. This is turn reduced the total project cost and created better watercourse flow. Coldstream also supplied precast concrete footings. The total installation time for footing and bridge elements was under 2 day.
Chinnick Drain and Pump Station
Mun. Chatham-Kent
Project scope
In June 2015 Coldstream Concrete supplied 2 large pump stations that were 7.2m x 3.8m x 6.2m deep to the Chinnick Drain and Pump project in the Municipality of Chatham Kent. These chambers house pump intakes and collect water from the Chinnick Drain which is then pumped into Lake St. Clair. The entire one end was open to receive water from the drain. Due to the high water levels buoyancy issues had to be considered. The 3 walled chamber caused structural problems. This was remedied by inserting 25m rebar into preformed vertical tubes that extended through all the riser sections, base and cap. This created horizontal and vertical reinforcing grid and joined all the elements together. Each chamber consisted of 9 units. All 18 united were installed in the winter with water issue over 1.5 days.
